Preparing each student for college acceptance and achievement is a priority of the entire program at Cardinal Spellman High School. Each of our teachers and administrators works diligently and enthusiastically to achieve this goal for each of our students. Many of our graduates are not only accepted into college, they are awarded scholarships!

At Cardinal Spellman High School, we realize that there is more to an education than the knowledge acquired within the walls of a classroom. We strive to provide our students with a nurturing environment where they can begin to experience the world that they are preparing to enter. We realize that our society is composed of both males and females of many different races, ethnicities, cultures, and religious backgrounds. A school like Spellman allows students the opportunity to grow and to respect the traditions of others while still cherishing their own customs and traditions. The diversity of our student body serves as a bond, not a barrier!

 

Our Campus


Cardinal Spellman High School is recognized as one of the finest educational facilities in the East. Our beautiful 13 acre campus at the Bronx-Westchester border includes two new outdoor all weather fields, landscaped grounds, and a beautiful enclosed courtyard. Our library boasts more than 18,000 books, subscriptions to over 90 magazines, and a bank of computers. Our gymnasiums seats over 1500 and can be divided into four separate full-sized gym areas. In addition to the gym, Spellman students are able to use our fully-equipped, state-of-the fitness center which contains the same exercise equipment found in professional gyms. The stage facilities and seating capacity of our auditorium are regarded as superior to many professional theaters. Our three computer labs, science labs, art rooms, music room, and guidance suite all provide our students with everything necessary to grow, learn, and achieve.

Free Tutoring


The National Honor Society of Cardinal Spellman High School offers free tutoring each morning to any student who requests it. Students having difficulty with a subject or a concept can come and get the extra help and support they need in order to improve their understanding of the subject area.

 

Advanced Placement and Elective Classes


We offer a program of studies and activities to prepare each of our young men and women for personal success in college and in life. Advanced Placement Courses are offered to qualified students who are able to earn college credits while still in high school. In addition, Spellman also offers a wide variety of Elective courses allowing each student the opportunity to grow towards his or her full and unique potential. Some of the elective courses currently available at Spellman are: Forensic Science, Anatomy/Physiology, Computer Applications, Psychology, Marketing, Law, Media, Mechanical Drawing, Journalism, Theater Arts, Sculpture, and Calligraphy.

Students meet and make new friends as soon as they arrive at Cardinal Spellman High School. Incoming freshmen begin a program of welcoming activities, including Freshmen Field Day, which allow students to feel comfortable from their very first days here at Spellman. Spellman students can choose to join a wide variety of clubs, activities, and sports.
